Brazil: What makes Brazilian top models so successful?
They answer to the call of Isabeli, Adriana and Gisele… they are what the rest of the world dreams of, worshipped by all great photographers like film stars or footballers…but who really are these Brazilian models and what makes them so special? Plus an interview with Patrick Lemire, director of bookings at IMG.They answer to the call of Isabeli, Adriana and Gisele…they are what the rest of the world dreams of, worshipped by all great photographers like film stars or footballers…but who really are these Brazilian models and what makes them so special? Aside from their infectious charisma, these models know how to sell. It’s a fact. Three of them: Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio and number one, Gisèle Bundchen, are amongst the top 5 best-paid models in the world, according to Forbes Magazine. And besides their inherent charm and Brazilian roots, they also share the same power of seduction…
Patrick Lemire: In Brazil, there are two academies: you have football academy for the boys and modeling school for the girls and when we decide to go to Brazil to find new talent over there. Our first impression is that we are quite taken aback because instantly you are fully immersed in this amazingly relaxed, feel-good atmosphere. She barely has to step into the room and she’s dancing the samba with you and within three seconds you are under her spell, which is great. I have never met a Brazilian who is morose, sad, who lacks passion or that desire to come, to fight and to conquer.
For instance, when I work on a casting and a client says ‘I am looking for a Brazilian’, that means a girl with more or less sun-kissed skin, a voluptuous, curvy body and beautiful breasts and hips. Essentially, it is the exact opposite of the criteria that we impose on the runway.
