3.1 Phillip Lim Interview Menswear Spring/Summer 2016 - Paris
Phillip Lim has the gift to take on the basics that he loves –bombers, jackets, jumpsuits, suits, etc. and to renew them each season with ease and elegance. Interview with Phillip LimThe American Phillip Lim kicks off the sunny day in Paris under white flats erected in the heart of the Mineralogy Gallery. A location perfectly suited for this fluid, light and summery silhouette. The designer excels in the idea of adding a touch of sportswear to a chic wardrobe. The suit is worn with a quilted jacket or a long parka. Tennis stripes find themselves on outfits in blue tones and become more and more evident on the suits with a rockabilly look.
The tropical print is added on the military touch. White is introduced to the knitwear or on a white suit with a double-breasted jacket and fluid trousers, the stand out piece of this collection. Phillip Lim has the gift to take on the basics that he loves –bombers, jackets, jumpsuits, suits, etc. and to renew them each season with ease and elegance.
Phillip Lim Interview:
I just wanted air in this collection, and I wanted this sense of naivety, it was kind of an autobiography to what it means to be the “New American”. From the beginning looks it was like a prep story, then it turned into he went into sports, like an Ivy League Varsity Club, then he joined the military and from there he discovered the world. The funny thing is everyone says “style” but style takes a while to form, and I always find that what I love I keep working on to improve because there’s always room for improvement, I’m happy that you saw the signatures.
I come from a place where it’s heavily influenced by the street, but at the same time you want aspirational clothes, you want nice clothes - so how do you bring the two worlds together. And you always work on the same things, but better, richer, more provocative, more refined or more fun.
