Damir Doma Interview Fall/Winter 2015/2016 Menswear - Paris
Return to the roots for Damir DomaIt’s chez lui, in his office-cum-studio in the heart of Paris that Damir Doma puts on his menswear show. Like a return to the roots, but also to his DNA and to his history, the designer of Croatian origin offers a new man full of softness. The construction comes back to the centre of the clothes where each detail in considered. The huge off the shoulder coats are tied with a simple belt, the trousers are worn high waisted, and the shirt is transparent. The visible finishes and imperfections make the pieces even more beautiful. Likewise for the several girls on the catwalk mirroring the masculine outfits. To note: the vibrant yellow bringing a touch of sunshine to this wardrobe with darker colours.
Interview Damir Doma:
I started to look first into the old things and then to the very old things you know, absorb the things that are still relevant, put them together with a more contemporary vision with what my DNA is, the result is a very textured collection, I think with a lot of focus on material, and as much focus on the volume and on the shape, I think it is a very sculptural collection, there was a lot of work on the shoulders, on the sleeves, I think there is quite a lot of volume, it’s very fluid and soft.
It’s a very individual collection, it works for the young man, for the older man, I don’t think it’s defined by age, and it’s also not defined by gender. It was the idea of something human, showing the hand crafted aspect of my work because I think that they way I work is quite sculptural I start with the fabrics with visually considering the shape, and in the fittings there is also a lot of physical work also into the clothes.
